The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program is a voluntary U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) initiative that helps families in public housing or with Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) (Section 8) increase their earnings and achieve financial independence. The Housing Authority of South Bend graduated four Family Self-Sufficiency participants on November 18, 2025. At the graduation ceremony, their escrow payouts totaled $23,334.56. The participants are planning to spend their earnings on homeownership, entrepreneurship, add money to personal savings accounts, and to enroll in nursing school.
