SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The South Bend Heritage Foundation hosted an open house on Monday to showcase the newest set of affordable housing.
The homes are part of the Hoose Court project. It's the second phase of affordable rental housing in the Near West Side Neighborhood.
This phase brings four duplex units to the area.
The goal is to help close the housing gap in South Bend.
"These units are going to help fill a huge demand for workforce housing and for working families," says Marco Mariani, executive director of the South Bend Heritage Foundation. "Over the next 10 years, we will have a need for over 30,000 units of all types of housing in St. Joseph County, and these are just scratching the surface in meeting that demand."
These new units are in the 700 block of W. Wayne Street, and the hope is to get more units on the entire block.
You can apply by going to the Housing Authority of South Bend's website.
